Klaipėda “FK Sirijus” was a famous football name on the Lithuanian football map in the last decade. The first independent Lithuanian champion from Klaipėda. At that time, the legendary team included players not only from the team, but also later from the entire Lithuanian national football team: A. Žuta, S. Atmanavičius, A. Mika, V. Olšanskis, R. Vainoras, S. Mikalajūnas and others, and of course the architect of all these victories, the head coach of the team – Š. Giršovičius, whom people who are at least somewhat interested in football cannot fail to know.

Klaipėda “FK Sirijus” team returned with a bang, although not to the highest level, but still victoriously. The legendary club, restored by people who love football, debuted this season, like in the good old days. They won the title of winners in the B division of the LFF II league, and next season they secured a place to move up to a higher division.

An honorable story

In the 1990s, the port city's football reached its greatest heights in the city's sports history during the times of Independent Lithuania.

Klaipėda's "Sirijus", having defeated all the most capable teams in the country, became the national champion and won the Lithuanian Football Cup. "Sirijus"'s triumph has not been repeated by any seaside club for 35 years to this day. According to the 1990s championship system, the champion should have been determined in the super final. Older football fans remember well the drama that took place in November at the packed (there were about 5 thousand spectators) Pasvalys stadium between "Sirijus" and Panevėžys "Ekranas" teams. After 120 minutes of fighting, the gates of both teams remained locked, and the gold medals were determined by 11-meter penalties. Their fate lay in the feet of "Sirijus" team captain Ovidijus Mozūraitis, who had left for Anapilin just three minutes earlier. The experienced footballer did not disappoint his teammates and all the city's football fans. His decisive shot was accurate – 3:2.

The gold medals in Pasvalys were won by Marius Poškus, Rolandas Navikas, Zenonas Atutis, Audrius Žuta, Saulius Atmanavičius, Edgaras Tumasonis, Ovidijus Mozūraitis, Raimondas Vainoras, Vladas Grigaravičius, Saulius Mikalajūnas, Kęstutis Ruzgys, Valerijus Kiseliovas, Viktoras Olšanskis, Linas Skarbalius, Arūnas Šuika, Rolandas Bubliauskas, Gintaras Kviliūnas, Saulius Adomauskas.

The final of the second most important football competition in the country – the Lithuanian (then “Tiesa” newspaper) Cup – was no less dramatic and persistent. After 90 minutes and an additional 30 minutes of the match, the goal was “dry”, and the cup was no one's. Activities today

Football club Sirijus, located in Klaipėda, boasts a rich history and honorable achievements and traditions that perfectly reflect the spirit of the city. This club not only strives for success on the football field, but also strives to represent Klaipėda with great pride. FK Sirijus is dedicated to the development of young football players, giving them opportunities to dream and achieve football heights. The academy trains talented young players who have the opportunity to develop and later contribute to the honor of the club and the city. The club's vision includes not only sporting success, but also strengthening the community by encouraging youth participation in football activities and developing future stars.

Currently, the football academy is growing up with almost 300 young athletes, whose ages range from 4 to 18 years. The activities are carried out in the cities of Klaipėda and Palanga. They develop their skills during regular football training sessions, which are organized by ten professional coaches and assistants. The academy employs both experienced specialists and young coaches with UEFA Pro, A, B and C licenses. The focus on continuous improvement of coaches' competencies ensures that children are provided with the highest quality training. This allows each young person not only to improve in the field of football, but also to develop the values ​​of teamwork, friendship and responsibility.
